Local Restaurant Now Serving Home-Cooked Atmosphere
Statesville, NC (PRWEB) June 19, 2008 -- A local restaurant has opened, bringing in many new customers to try the home recipes of Mimi Smyre. Recalling the warmth and goodness of family Sunday dinners and holiday dinners, Smyre wanted to bring that same feeling to other people. Customers can come to Mrs. Mimi's Southern Comfort Restaurant any time to experience a true "promise of the taste of home."
"This was a goal in life to own a restaurant and the opportunity came," Mimi Smyre said. As a child, Smyre had dreamed of owning her own restaurant. As it became more of a reality, she began researching the different locations, keeping tabs on this location in particular. When it became available, she immediately grabbed the property and began the initial steps toward her restaurant. Never giving up, "things just started to fall into place." Soon, it became a family affair and the restaurant saw immediate success. It is located just one block from Mitchell Community College, which brings in a steady flow of business.
Despite a background in fast-food restaurants, Smyre wanted to steer clear of such food because of its unhealthy nature. This led her to consider a restaurant with more of a family atmosphere and home-cooked meals. For 15 years, she managed Burger King Restaurants in Oklahoma, Texas and Statesville. According to Smyre, she had the No. 1 Burger King in Houston for two consecutive years and was the manager at the Burger King on Broad Street in Statesville.
Smyre is not only known for her new restaurant, but she has been involved in the community for some time. Before opening the restaurant, she was a center director at Statesville Christian Center for Boys and Girls Club of the Piedmont for more than two years.
About Mrs. Mimi's Southern Comfort Restaurant: Opened in late February, Mrs. Mimi's is run by the Smyre Family. Owned by her and her husband, the rest of the family, including Smyre's children, LeBron, Natasha, Lakisha, Kelli and daughter-in-law Kisha Hall, are pitching in and doing their part to ensure continued success.
