The Art Deco District

South Beach is famed for its Art Deco style, and it has numerous world-class restaurants, modeling, oceanfront condos, film and recording industries along with an exciting nightlife. Residents of in this area would be proud to be noted as living among one of the nation?s largest historic districts that also features first-rate cultural offerings and an international mix of full and part-time residents. In the 1930s, an architectural transformation came to South Beach, conveying Art Deco and other unique forms of architecture to the district.

Till this day, South Beach has the world's widest collection of Streamline Moderne Art Deco architecture. While many of the unique Art Deco buildings, such as the New Yorker Hotel, were torn down to make way for new construction, the area was persevered as a cohesive unit by a group of activists who organized the movement to put South Beach on the National Register of Historic Places.
