Students To Sen. Dick Durbin: "Cut The Funding! Bring All The Troops Home Now"
(PRWEB) September 20, 2007 -- Congress will soon vote on whether or not to allocate another 145 billion dollars to fund wars that most Americans oppose. For the period of Sept. 16-22, the students of Campus Antiwar Network (CAN) have organized a national Week of Action to put our representatives' feet to the fire and hold them to the reason that they got elected: to end the war in Iraq.
Chicago's contribution to this national week of action will be to hold events on our various campuses and to unite student and other organizations to picket Senator Durbin's office to remind him that 70% of his constituents oppose the war and want him to vote against funding the war.
Senator Durbin is not only the second leading Democrat, but he is also a member the Appropriations Committee and is therefore in a perfect position to cut the funding. In spite of these facts, he has consistently ignored his constituents and provided constant support for a war that has killed millions of Iraqis, displaced millions more, and killed at least as many soldiers as the number of people that died during the Sept. 11th attacks.
