Homes for Our Troops Announces Groundbreaking for 5th North Carolina Home
Homes For Our Troops to Build a Specially Adapted Home for Severely Wounded North Carolina Veteran SSG Lee Tom Jones.
Homes For Our Troops, Vice President/Chief Projects Officer, Kirt Rebello, will hold a press conference at the vacant lot located at 2611 Odum Road in the Oak Grove Subdivision, Lumberton, NC on September 14, 2007 at 1:00 PM to announce the beginning of this building project.
Lumberton, North Carolina September 14, 2007 - Homes For Our Troops, a Massachusetts based 501 (c)(3) organization that builds and adapts homes for handicap accessibility for our most severely wounded veterans will be reaching out to the local community members to help provide a new home for SSG Lee Tom Jones.
On October 3, 2005 SSG Lee Tom Jones was on patrol with the 82nd Airborne 504 when the Humvee that he was riding in hit an IED. The blast caused the Humvee to flip over and catch on fire. Even though Lee was on fire when he ran out of the Humvee he demanded to know the fate of the 3 men he was riding with. Lee has sustained severe burns to over 45% of his body, 3 strokes, Traumatic Brian Injury, and has no feeling in his feet - which makes it difficult for him to walk. He is only able to go very short distances with a walking belt and assistance. Lee's home is one of five projects that Homes For Our Troops has undertaken in NC. Homes For Our Troops has completed work on barrier-free homes in Fayetteville and Roxboro, the project in New Bern is scheduled for completion in early October and work on the Waxhaw project is well underway.
Now Homes For Our Troops is hoping to replicate the local business involvement and the community volunteerism in the Lumberton area for another wounded American Hero. Homes For Our Troops has committed to building a home for Lee to suit his living needs. We will be calling on local residents and businesses to donate building materials, services, professional building labor and monetary donations to help with Lee's home. - Who: Homes For Our Troops, Inc., a Taunton, MA based non-profit organization that (at no cost to the veterans they serve) provides specially adaptive housing to severely wounded veterans returning from the War on Terror,: www.homesforourtroops.org - SSG Lee Tom Jones and members of the local community: http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer?pagename=SSGT_Lee_Jones - What: Press Conference by Homes For Our Troops, Vice President/Chief Projects Officer, Kirt Rebello to announce the beginning of the home building project for SSG Jones. - When: September 14, 2007 at 1:00 PM - Where: 2611 Odum Road in the Oak Grove Subdivision, Lumberton, NC
