Cottage Rental Opens Near Olana, Home of Famed Hudson River School Artist Frederic Church
Hudson, NY (PRWEB) July 12, 2007 -- Vintage East (www.VintageEast.com) announced today the opening of its Country Cottage rental 3 miles south of Hudson. Vintage East is a historic compound near Olana (http://www.vintageeast.com/Olana.html) and located adjacent to land that was once Frederic Church's estate during his prolific period as a world renowned American artist. Available for short term rental or extended stay at Vintage East is a salt box built by a settler family named Plass in the 1700's. Plass Cottage (http://www.vintageeast.com/index.html) has been restored and updated with new systems and functions as the guest house at Vintage East. The announcement was made by the proprietor, W. Franklin Aultman.
"Plass Cottage is a place where guests can escape the demands of the modern world," says Aultman. "It's a step back into Frederic Church's era where a slower pace meets the aesthetic beauty of history and nature. The lodging offers an atmosphere of old charm and down-to-earth comfort. It is surrounded by old trees and the interior has wide board flooring. It is furnished with antiques, lending to the comfortable country charm that has existed here for over 200 years," he adds.
The Cottage features a glass enclosed front porch which has views of the surrounding countryside and has pulldown shades for privacy. Atop a distant hill can be seen, Frederic Church's castle (http://www.vintageeast.com/View.html). There are three sleeping areas including an upstairs bedroom, downstairs bedroom and a sleeping alcove on the porch which can be made private. There is a dining and living area, full kitchen and two modernized full baths. There is an area for outside dining with stone walls, a terrace and water garden (http://www.vintageeast.com/Fountain.html). In addition, Plass Cottage features a glass door wood burning stove for winter visitors.
The complex also includes private areas such as the main house which is an 1850 Greek Revival structure originally built by Mathew Marshall, a prominent blacksmith in Columbia county. There is a restored barn and chicken house which was converted to an office. There are forest, fields and meadows surrounding the complex where wildlife abound. Visitors can view deer, wild turkey and rabbits roaming the grounds right from their room windows. There are 100-year-old lilacs that bloom in spring with light blue, white and purple blossoms and the lilac fragrance is everywhere. You can view the Green Mountains of Vermont to the North, the Taconic Mountains and the Berkshire Mountains of Massachussetts to the East and Frederic Church's castle, Olana, to the West. You can even see the many church steeples of the City of Hudson rising through the forest in the distant hills.
Vintage East is 4 miles from the Amtrak station in Hudson, 6 miles from the NY State Thruway and 9 miles from the Taconic Parkway. It's also only a 3 mile drive to nearby Olana State Park.
